Amber Anderson

Growing up in San Diego, Amber Andersen decided at age five to become a veterinarian.  She attended a performing arts high school which allowed her to develop communication and public speaking skills.  In 2000 she left the city to play with the cows at Cal Poly San Luis Obispo.  As an animal science major she became experienced with food animal production and medicine.  At Cal Poly she continued to ride horses while living and working on an equine farm.

Amber began school at the new veterinary college Western University of Health Sciences in August 2005.  In summer 2006 she had the opportunity to visit South Africa to interact with their wildlife.  She has also worked with animals and people in Native American Tribes and rural areas of Mexico.  Amber served as the California Veterinary Medical Association Western U student representative in 2006-2007.  She also co-founded the Disaster Animal Response Team at Western U which aided victims of the 2007 southern California wildfires.  In 2008 she was recognized for her leadership by Western Veterinary Conference as a scholarship recipient.

In her final year of veterinary school, Amber is sharing her experience at www.almostdoctoramber.com.  There she will blog about life as a veterinary student and all topics related to the human-animal bond.  After graduation she is considering a small animal internship and will continue to work on a Masters in Public Health from University of Minnesota.  Amber hopes to ultimately work as a media personality representing the veterinary profession.
