Dr. Anthony Blikslager

Dr. Anthony Blikslager is Professor of Equine Surgery and Gastroenterology at North Carolina State University in Raleigh, USA.  He was a member of the United States Department of Agriculture National Research Initiative Review Panel in 2008, and his current research is funded by the USDA. He is on the Editorial Review Board of the American Journal of Veterinary Research. Dr. Blikslager 
chaired the Large Animal Scientific Advisory Board of the Morris Animal Foundation in 2008.  He received the Pfizer Award for Excellence in Research from North Carolina State University in 2006.  He has published in excess of 100 peer reviewed publications.

Anthony Blikslager grew up in England on a horse farm south of London. Anthony’s first memorable experience with colic was a colic surgery performed in a stall. He emigrated to the United States with the rest of his family and four horses in the early ‘80’s. He attended Veterinary School at Virginia Tech, graduating in 1989. Dr. Blikslager then began developing additional equine experience as an intern at the University of Missouri-Columbia, and a resident in 

equine surgery at NC State University. He developed a specific interest in managing horses with colic, and went into a PhD program in equine gastroenterology at NC State. Dr. Blikslager has since published frequently on colic in veterinary science on horseman’s journals for the last 10-years. He continues to provide service to owners and veterinarians on the equine emergency service, and owns a working horse farm in Raleigh with his wife.
