Diplomate American College of Veterinary Behaviorists

Dr. Christensen first became interested in veterinary behavior as a high school student when she worked at a general veterinary practice and began training animals for pet therapy at a local substance abuse facility.  While in veterinary school she researched separation anxiety in shelter dogs, was an assistant trainer at an animal shelter, and studied with numerous board-certified veterinary behaviorists.  After receiving her DVM from Iowa State University in 2002, Dr. Christensen began a rotating small animal internship at SouthPaws Veterinary Referral Center in Springfield, VA where she studied veterinary behavior with Dr. Marsha Reich.  She practiced feline-only medicine in Arlington, VA and general medicine in Bloomingdale, NJ until accepting a residency position with Dr. Katherine Houpt at the Animal Behavior Clinic at Cornell University in Ithaca, NY in 2004.  While at Cornell University, Dr. Christensen participated in research on temperament testing in shelters, feline elimination disorders, aggression in dogs, situational stress in cats, cribbing in horses, feline feeding patterns, and medical causes of behavior problems.  She has contributed to articles in Dog Watch, Cat Watch, Dog Training Solutions, Real Simple, Newsday, and the Albany Times Union and enjoys lecturing to a variety of groups on behavior topics.
