Dr. Heather Case is the Coordinator of Emergency Preparedness and Response for the AVMA.  She is board certified by the American College of Veterinary Preventive Medicine.  Working with the AVMA’s Committee on Disaster and Emergency Issues, she is responsible for coordination of information and people to advance AVMA’s all species/all hazards emergency preparedness and response, including oversight of the AVMA Veterinary Medical Assistance Teams.  Prior to joining the AVMA she served as an AVMA Congressional Fellow in Washington, DC in 2006-07.  As a public health resident she worked on West Nile Virus surveillance, biosecurity and risk assessment, and food borne pathogens.  She previously practiced equine and companion animal medicine.  Following Hurricane Katrina she responded as a member of the Veterinary Medical Assistance Team Five, and was deployed three times to assist in the response to Hurricane Katrina serving in logistics and as Commander of Shelter Medicine for the Lamar Dixon Animal Shelter which housed over 8000 animals displaced by the hurricane.
