Melanie Weir started riding at the age of seven in her home town of Chico in Northern California when she got her Shetland pony, Star.  Melanie stopped riding during high school but picked it up again in 2001 when she met Kamanche, a 13 year-old Arabian gelding, and started doing some endurance riding.  Melanie was introduced to ride & tie in 2003, and has been competing in the sport ever since.  She has completed six ride & tie championship races (five of them with Kamanche) and many other local events.  She joined the Board of Directors for The Ride and Tie Association in 2008 and is currently its Vice President.  Melanie lives in Orange, California with husband Robert, dogs Gilligan and Taz, and horses Kamanche and Emmy.
