Rus Wilson

Rus Wilson has been involved with exotic animals in one way or another for most of his life. A few of the highlights include hand-feeding wild lacertid lizards in Italy; snorkeling among the humuhumunukuukuapua'a (Hawaiian triggerfish), sea turtles, and moray eels in Hawaii; and working with armadillos, kookaburras, indigo snakes, tortoises, tenrecs, and vinegaroons here in the continental U.S. He has bred and raised a variety of species --finned, feathered, furred, and other. He has several years of experience training animals using the positive reinforcement techniques from rats to budgies to frogs and fish. He and his family currently own one cat, one African Clawed frog, two African Dwarf frogs, a large number of tropical fish--including freshwater and marine species--as well as an assortment of invertebrates, from hermit crabs to peppermint shrimp to olive nerites, soft corals, and assassin snails. Most of his aquariums include live plants, and he also raises several types of live food for his own fish, as well as those of other hobbyists. He has enjoyed opportunities to educate others about the animal world through both employment and volunteer work. He is glad to be able to share his experience with one of his all-time favorite amphibians.
