Jay Smith

Jay Smith, the Chief Executive Officer of freshfetch comes from over 15 years of success in Software and Telecommunications businesses in Silicon Valley.  With degrees in Marketing, Finance, and International Economics, Jay may seem an unlikely entrant into the pet food industry, but nothing could be further from the truth. 

Coming from a family of lifelong dog owners Jay has frequently applied his knowledge to assist friends and family in dealing with health issues related to feeding, the most important of which led Jay to the realization that most commercial canned and bagged pet foods lacked the synergies of whole foods necessary to avoid some chronic conditions such as seizure disorders, digestive problems, and even food sensitivities of minor and major scale.

But, after 2007's melamine-related pet food recalls, Jay decided it was time to take action.  Long a believer in feeding dogs whole, unprocessed foods of the type and quality originally reserved for humans, Jay contacted long-time friend Mike Smith and asked if he would be interested in working with Jay to start a pet food company that specialized in making unprocessed, whole-food ready meals for dogs.  Their goals?  To make feeding whole foods to our dogs as easy as feeding ourselves, and to do so with the type of transparency and quality normally reserved for human restaurants or prepared meals.

Jay has lived in Southern California for 20 years, and was born in San Antonio, Texas.

 

Mike Smith

Mike Smith, the Executive Chef and Chief Operations Officer of freshfetch began his culinary career over 10 years ago, training at the Los Angeles Art Institute for Culinary Studies.  Before he even graduated, he was hired to work in the kitchen of a certain mansion in Holmby Hills that all of us would recognize.  Mike's career has taken him to kitchens catering to Beverly Hills' elite at the Four Season's Beverly Hills, and to Los Angeles' famous restaurant row.

Mike made the decision to bring what he knows about making the healthiest and tastiest foods for people into the world of new-age foods for our best friends when he took on the responsibilities of Executive Chef for freshfetch.  Mike worked with research from nutritionists & veterinarians, and coupled this information about dogs ' nutritional needs with his own understanding of how to prepare foods so that they provide the best nutrition possible.

Mike is a native of Southern California, born in Thousand Oaks, where his family still lives.
