Boss Cat Raw Cat Diet

Rita Reimers on Pet Life Radio

There is a big push in the cat world to feed our feline a raw diet. Trouble is, it's often difficult and confusing to find the PURRfect cat food with all the right nutrients that our cats need to live.  Add to the equation our cats’ finicky pallets, it gets even more challenging. If we find one that is nutritionally complete and easy to serve, it might be a struggle to get our cats to eat it.

In an attempt to make feeding raw a little less confusing, Rita and Linda invited the CEO of Boss Brand Pet Foods, Basel Nassar, to discuss their raw food for cats. Not only is Boss Cat complete with the nutrients our kitties need, but it’s also been infused with probiotics for even more health benefits. Boss Cat is freeze dried, which makes it easy to serve as either a treat or a meal, and the cats all love it!  In fact, one of the cats in our sanctuary, Subra, is a shameless beggar and won’t leave Linda alone until she’s given a taste of that good stuff!  Listen in to hear why we love Boss Cat, and why we think you and your cats will love it, too!

00:00:02.080 --> 00:00:03.880
Announcer: This is Pet Life Radio.

00:00:03.880 --> 00:00:04.980
Announcer: Let's talk pets.

00:00:23.473 --> 00:00:26.633
Linda Hall: Welcome, welcome, my cat-loving friends.

00:00:26.633 --> 00:00:28.273
Linda Hall: Cat nutrition.

00:00:28.273 --> 00:00:36.413
Linda Hall: So, raw is a big thing these days, and Rita and I looked into making our own raw, and it's got a little complicated.

00:00:36.413 --> 00:00:36.833
Rita Reimers: A little.

00:00:36.833 --> 00:00:51.113
Linda Hall: So today, we are so blessed to have the CEO of Boss Brand Pet Foods with us, and he's gonna give us a scoop on what he's doing for our four-legged friends right afterwards from the sponsor.

00:00:54.673 --> 00:00:57.793
Linda Hall: Hey, it's Linda Hall from 19 Cats and Counting.

00:00:57.793 --> 00:01:01.033
Rita Reimers: And I'm Rita Reimers from 19 Cats and Counting.

00:01:01.033 --> 00:01:04.013
Rita Reimers: You know the expression that cats have nine lives?

00:01:04.013 --> 00:01:06.193
Rita Reimers: Well, what if you can give them one more?

00:01:06.193 --> 00:01:10.993
Rita Reimers: The Give Them Ten movement is on a mission to help give cats an extra life.

00:01:10.993 --> 00:01:11.813
Rita Reimers: How?

00:01:11.813 --> 00:01:13.613
Linda Hall: With spay and neuter.

00:01:13.613 --> 00:01:20.013
Linda Hall: Spaying or neutering your cat helps them live a longer, healthier life, and it helps control the free roaming cat populations, too.

00:01:20.573 --> 00:01:27.793
Linda Hall: You can learn more about the benefits of spay and neuter and meet Scooter, the neutered cat, at givethemten.org.

00:01:27.793 --> 00:01:29.133
Rita Reimers: That's givethemten.org.

00:01:34.113 --> 00:01:37.193
Announcer: Let's talk pets on petliferadio.com.

00:01:46.798 --> 00:01:48.518
Linda Hall: Welcome back to 19 Cats and Counting.

00:01:48.518 --> 00:01:56.138
Linda Hall: I am your co-host, Linda Hall, here with my forever BFF, Rita Reimers, gorgeous as she always is.

00:01:56.138 --> 00:02:03.558
Rita Reimers: Aw, and I'm here with my new co-host, Lulu, who insists on being everywhere with me all the time.

00:02:03.658 --> 00:02:05.898
Linda Hall: I can't help but stare at the-

00:02:05.898 --> 00:02:12.078
Linda Hall: I was just gonna say, Baseli has a guest too, so let's bring him in because we wanna introduce his guest as well.

00:02:12.078 --> 00:02:14.478
Rita Reimers: I can't stop looking at her, she's so beautiful.

00:02:14.798 --> 00:02:20.778
Basel Nassar: That's her running around the house somewhere, and there's four dogs and a giant tortoise upstairs.

00:02:20.838 --> 00:02:22.818
Basel Nassar: Oh, I love you.

00:02:22.818 --> 00:02:26.018
Basel Nassar: She's the most manageable one right now for this.

00:02:26.018 --> 00:02:30.278
Basel Nassar: We ended up calling her Maxie because we weren't sure what gender was.

00:02:31.598 --> 00:02:35.498
Basel Nassar: But anyway, we did a blood analysis and she's a girl, so we said, I'll just keep it Maxie.

00:02:35.498 --> 00:02:37.318
Basel Nassar: She loves it, she responds to it.

00:02:37.318 --> 00:02:39.438
Linda Hall: yes, and what breed is she?

00:02:40.078 --> 00:02:44.678
Rita Reimers: She's a Golden Cognure, which I've never seen before.

00:02:44.678 --> 00:02:47.538
Rita Reimers: Like I was sharing before we went.

00:02:47.538 --> 00:02:48.318
Rita Reimers: There we are.

00:02:48.318 --> 00:02:54.238
Rita Reimers: My mom had, Sherry had cognures and done cognures, but I've never seen one like this.

00:02:54.238 --> 00:02:56.638
Basel Nassar: We wanted one that would be good with animals.

00:02:56.638 --> 00:02:58.358
Basel Nassar: She'll sit around or with it.

00:02:58.358 --> 00:02:59.778
Basel Nassar: She'll sit with the cats.

00:02:59.778 --> 00:03:00.418
Rita Reimers: That's awesome.

00:03:00.918 --> 00:03:10.478
Basel Nassar: Our 160 pound rhodesian Ridgeback sit on his nose with a little Karen Terrier named Leila Toto from Wizard of Oz.

00:03:10.478 --> 00:03:13.858
Basel Nassar: That's the only dog that we can't leave Maxie alone with.

00:03:13.858 --> 00:03:16.198
Basel Nassar: There's just something about them.

00:03:17.918 --> 00:03:19.798
Linda Hall: I think that's kind of a terrier thing, isn't it?

00:03:19.798 --> 00:03:21.998
Linda Hall: They're kind of like, gimme, gimme.

00:03:21.998 --> 00:03:23.918
Linda Hall: How do the cats do okay with the bird?

00:03:23.918 --> 00:03:25.198
Linda Hall: That was my quest.

00:03:25.198 --> 00:03:26.118
Basel Nassar: No issues.

00:03:26.118 --> 00:03:27.118
Basel Nassar: No issues at all.

00:03:27.118 --> 00:03:28.238
Linda Hall: That's amazing.

00:03:28.278 --> 00:03:32.658
Rita Reimers: Wow, I had two birds and two cats at the same time and could not leave them alone together.

00:03:32.658 --> 00:03:35.818
Rita Reimers: No, that would have, I would have only had two cats then.

00:03:35.818 --> 00:03:37.118
Linda Hall: yes, exactly.

00:03:37.118 --> 00:03:38.538
Rita Reimers: Oh, look, one for each.

00:03:38.538 --> 00:03:40.558
Basel Nassar: We close the cage when we leave.

00:03:40.558 --> 00:03:43.638
Basel Nassar: We whatever around the animals, we're supervised, but yeah.

00:03:43.638 --> 00:03:44.498
Linda Hall: Smart, yes.

00:03:44.498 --> 00:03:46.438
Linda Hall: You know what, nature can take over.

00:03:46.438 --> 00:03:47.038
Basel Nassar: Absolutely.

00:03:47.038 --> 00:03:48.918
Linda Hall: yes, exactly.

00:03:48.918 --> 00:03:50.858
Linda Hall: So we're so excited.

00:03:50.858 --> 00:03:56.078
Linda Hall: First, tell us a little bit about Boss Brand Pet Foods and what you do with the company.

00:03:56.678 --> 00:04:07.318
Basel Nassar: Well, I'll tell you, I've been a serial entrepreneur for about 30 years and what that's afforded me is a lot of experience primarily in the digestive health realm.

00:04:07.318 --> 00:04:11.878
Basel Nassar: And for 20 years, we built a Greek yogurt brand for humans.

00:04:11.878 --> 00:04:22.778
Basel Nassar: We learned how to infuse probiotics in dairy bases, soup bases, plant-based solutions, all sorts of different things and get high sustainable levels.

00:04:22.778 --> 00:04:23.978
Basel Nassar: So I did that for 20 years.

00:04:24.078 --> 00:04:27.018
Basel Nassar: We ended up selling our business in 2010.

00:04:27.018 --> 00:04:32.338
Basel Nassar: I had a unique opportunity to build out the acquirer's refrigerated division.

00:04:32.338 --> 00:04:34.098
Basel Nassar: I did that for about eight years.

00:04:34.098 --> 00:04:39.478
Basel Nassar: And then when that was over, I said, I told my top people of which are still with me today.

00:04:39.478 --> 00:04:45.938
Basel Nassar: So most of my group on the admin marketing and sales side has been with me for over 15 years.

00:04:45.938 --> 00:04:48.338
Linda Hall: Wow, that's loyalty.

00:04:48.338 --> 00:04:51.438
Basel Nassar: Yeah, I'll tell you that there's one young lady that started with me when she was 15.

00:04:52.018 --> 00:04:55.438
Basel Nassar: She's now 34 and is the VP of marketing.

00:04:55.438 --> 00:04:56.098
Rita Reimers: Nice.

00:04:56.098 --> 00:04:57.098
Linda Hall: I love that.

00:04:57.098 --> 00:05:00.458
Linda Hall: That says a lot about them, but it also says a lot about you and your company.

00:05:00.458 --> 00:05:05.558
Linda Hall: People that are going to stick around that much, you're obviously are doing well in the boss frame, right?

00:05:05.558 --> 00:05:07.418
Rita Reimers: And you promote from within.

00:05:07.418 --> 00:05:08.598
Rita Reimers: I love that too.

00:05:08.598 --> 00:05:09.198
Basel Nassar: Absolutely.

00:05:09.198 --> 00:05:09.758
Rita Reimers: Yeah.

00:05:09.758 --> 00:05:10.218
Rita Reimers: yes.

00:05:10.218 --> 00:05:17.038
Basel Nassar: So the vision was in 2018, I said, let's go and create the birds picking out the back of my hat.

00:05:20.758 --> 00:05:22.438
Rita Reimers: Stop when there's blood.

00:05:22.438 --> 00:05:23.078
Linda Hall: yes.

00:05:23.078 --> 00:05:23.298
Basel Nassar: Yeah.

00:05:23.298 --> 00:05:24.318
Basel Nassar: All right.

00:05:24.318 --> 00:05:25.278
Basel Nassar: We'll pause.

00:05:25.278 --> 00:05:30.498
Basel Nassar: I stepped back and I said, okay, I've been in the consumer world now for 20 plus years.

00:05:30.498 --> 00:05:33.098
Basel Nassar: What other industry can I get in and make a difference?

00:05:33.098 --> 00:05:45.058
Basel Nassar: What I mean by making a difference is doing something innovative, doing something that has effect value, meaning the animals get an empirical value out of it, and then also to do something that I love.

00:05:46.358 --> 00:05:51.238
Basel Nassar: We started acquiring animals, I would say, about seven years ago, my wife and I.

00:05:51.238 --> 00:05:53.218
Basel Nassar: We call it Boss Ranch.

00:05:53.218 --> 00:06:02.158
Basel Nassar: I think I've commemorated all the different animals that we have, and I think a baby donkey and possibly a peacock might be in the future.

00:06:02.158 --> 00:06:03.818
Rita Reimers: Cool.

00:06:03.818 --> 00:06:05.518
Linda Hall: Your cats will love those peacocks.

00:06:05.518 --> 00:06:07.038
Linda Hall: I know that.

00:06:07.038 --> 00:06:10.118
Linda Hall: It's like purchasing something that will give you free cat toys.

00:06:10.118 --> 00:06:11.458
Linda Hall: It's economical in the long run.

00:06:11.498 --> 00:06:15.378
Rita Reimers: Duck feathers are massive hit with cats.

00:06:15.418 --> 00:06:16.018
Rita Reimers: Yeah.

00:06:16.018 --> 00:06:18.558
Basel Nassar: I have to be careful not to put netting over the house now.

00:06:18.558 --> 00:06:20.098
Basel Nassar: Yeah.

00:06:20.098 --> 00:06:29.378
Basel Nassar: So, the objective was to take this great team that I've built and all of this knowledge of infusion or probiotics and apply it to the pet industry.

00:06:29.378 --> 00:06:36.018
Basel Nassar: Pet has been a Kibble and Bits Me Too offering for as long as we can all remember.

00:06:36.018 --> 00:06:50.258
Basel Nassar: And right now, I'm very pleased to say we're in the front of the premiumization of the Pet channel, as we see fresh, raw frozen, freeze-dried, air-dried combo kits.

00:06:50.258 --> 00:06:52.638
Basel Nassar: I mean, there's never been more offerings.

00:06:52.898 --> 00:06:55.958
Basel Nassar: But a lot of them are still very much the same.

00:06:55.958 --> 00:07:01.618
Basel Nassar: It's a protein-based concept with liver, organ, bone and something.

00:07:01.618 --> 00:07:09.458
Basel Nassar: We wanted to do it a little different, so we took the AFCO guidelines, we took all the formulation knowledge that we've acquired.

00:07:09.458 --> 00:07:09.958
Basel Nassar: Dr.

00:07:09.958 --> 00:07:13.018
Basel Nassar: Mo is our regulatory and formula lead.

00:07:13.018 --> 00:07:15.958
Basel Nassar: He's been in the game for about 50 years.

00:07:15.958 --> 00:07:18.398
Basel Nassar: He's an expert in both human and pet.

00:07:18.398 --> 00:07:22.958
Basel Nassar: And I said, I want to infuse this with probiotics, but not one sachet.

00:07:22.958 --> 00:07:25.758
Basel Nassar: I want high levels of effective probiotics.

00:07:25.758 --> 00:07:35.658
Basel Nassar: So most of our products will deliver 500 million probiotics per cup or per serving, or up to 3 billion in our frozen yogurt treats.

00:07:36.218 --> 00:07:48.798
Basel Nassar: Consumers are seeing this as a great value instead of having this long supplement row, you can actually eat whole meal systems, fully supplemented with the digestive component all at once.

00:07:48.798 --> 00:07:53.298
Basel Nassar: The portfolio in 2019 was about nine skews.

00:07:53.298 --> 00:07:59.878
Basel Nassar: Little did I know, and I'm always about full transparency, that I was going to run head first into a global pandemic.

00:08:01.198 --> 00:08:01.758
Rita Reimers: Oh, yeah.

00:08:03.258 --> 00:08:04.418
Rita Reimers: We did the same.

00:08:04.418 --> 00:08:16.238
Basel Nassar: It's only fair to say that startups experience, I think a little more duress than legacy companies, and we were a startup, so getting a listing, getting placement was virtually impossible.

00:08:16.238 --> 00:08:21.778
Basel Nassar: The reason I'm telling you this is, it was almost a blessing in disguise, almost.

00:08:21.778 --> 00:08:28.738
Basel Nassar: It allowed me the ability to really step back and innovate what I call the lifestyle portfolio.

00:08:29.278 --> 00:08:42.718
Basel Nassar: So, my objective is, you walk into a pet specialty store, you have a dog, cat, maybe bird, maybe other solution on the meal, treat and supplement side of your needs.

00:08:42.718 --> 00:08:47.478
Basel Nassar: And that was the way we designed the business with the effect value of the probiotic.

00:08:47.478 --> 00:08:51.578
Basel Nassar: And so, in summary, that's essentially what the motivation was.

00:08:52.638 --> 00:08:54.778
Basel Nassar: In 2019, we had nine skews.

00:08:54.818 --> 00:08:56.698
Basel Nassar: Today, we have 340.

00:08:57.338 --> 00:09:01.218
Basel Nassar: We're considered one of the fastest growing pet specialty brands in America.

00:09:01.218 --> 00:09:03.918
Basel Nassar: And I emphasize pet specialty.

00:09:03.918 --> 00:09:07.518
Basel Nassar: yes, we do do some business online with discretion.

00:09:07.518 --> 00:09:12.598
Basel Nassar: Our support, our enthusiasm is behind the brick and mortar independent pet store.

00:09:12.598 --> 00:09:13.538
Rita Reimers: That's amazing.

00:09:13.538 --> 00:09:16.038
Basel Nassar: Where we really focus our efforts.

00:09:16.038 --> 00:09:19.938
Rita Reimers: So this is nothing you could go into Petco or PetSmart and get.

00:09:19.938 --> 00:09:21.318
Rita Reimers: You have to go to the mom and pop shop.

00:09:21.698 --> 00:09:23.998
Basel Nassar: And I'll be piano with you.

00:09:23.998 --> 00:09:28.298
Basel Nassar: If there's ever a move into any of those channels, we'll do it with great care.

00:09:28.298 --> 00:09:33.198
Basel Nassar: You probably see some brand shifting, maybe not the same offerings.

00:09:33.198 --> 00:09:38.538
Basel Nassar: The last thing we want to do is take away the value that PetSpecialty brings to the industry.

00:09:38.538 --> 00:09:42.598
Basel Nassar: And they are the incubator for new concepts.

00:09:42.598 --> 00:09:47.178
Basel Nassar: The Petcos and PetSmart of the world generally don't get behind pioneering innovation.

00:09:47.898 --> 00:09:48.998
Rita Reimers: It's true.

00:09:48.998 --> 00:09:49.798
Rita Reimers: It's true.

00:09:49.798 --> 00:09:56.138
Rita Reimers: I'm glad to see so many companies thinking about the health and nutrition and longevity of our pets.

00:09:56.138 --> 00:10:01.978
Rita Reimers: Instead of, how do I make a quick buck on cheap fillers and cheap cat food?

00:10:01.978 --> 00:10:02.978
Linda Hall: Yeah, exactly.

00:10:02.978 --> 00:10:07.998
Linda Hall: I have nothing against you going into Petco, but I kind of liked when you said that, like our focus is.

00:10:07.998 --> 00:10:08.418
Linda Hall: Yeah.

00:10:08.418 --> 00:10:13.178
Rita Reimers: Well, Petco actually does concentrate more on healthier brands now.

00:10:13.178 --> 00:10:16.358
Rita Reimers: So that would probably make sense if you went that direction.

00:10:16.358 --> 00:10:16.738
Linda Hall: That's true.

00:10:17.338 --> 00:10:21.418
Basel Nassar: If you're not focusing on healthier premium solutions, you're behind the curve.

00:10:21.418 --> 00:10:24.958
Basel Nassar: Can I show you and your listeners just a quick picture?

00:10:24.958 --> 00:10:25.938
Rita Reimers: Absolutely.

00:10:25.938 --> 00:10:26.578
Rita Reimers: yes.

00:10:26.578 --> 00:10:29.738
Rita Reimers: Well, those of you listening, when you see the video, you'll see this.

00:10:29.738 --> 00:10:31.258
Linda Hall: Welcome to Boss Nation, Boss Brand.

00:10:31.658 --> 00:10:32.038
Rita Reimers: Look at that.

00:10:32.038 --> 00:10:32.598
Linda Hall: Oh my goodness.

00:10:32.598 --> 00:10:33.258
Linda Hall: Look at all that.

00:10:33.258 --> 00:10:37.518
Basel Nassar: I think this is the best representation of what the portfolio looks like today.

00:10:37.518 --> 00:10:40.238
Basel Nassar: So frozen yogurt, meal systems.

00:10:40.238 --> 00:10:40.998
Linda Hall: Frozen yogurt.

00:10:40.998 --> 00:10:42.258
Basel Nassar: Tactical pet gear line.

00:10:42.858 --> 00:10:48.338
Rita Reimers: I love the goat milk because people, most people don't realize cats cannot tolerate cow's milk.

00:10:48.338 --> 00:10:49.018
Linda Hall: High lactose, yes.

00:10:49.018 --> 00:10:51.618
Rita Reimers: But goat's milk is really great for cats.

00:10:51.618 --> 00:10:54.318
Basel Nassar: This was essentially the timeline of growth.

00:10:54.318 --> 00:10:57.418
Basel Nassar: So this has all happened in the last five and a half years.

00:10:57.418 --> 00:10:57.938
Rita Reimers: Love it.

00:10:57.938 --> 00:10:58.518
Rita Reimers: Wow.

00:10:58.518 --> 00:11:01.158
Basel Nassar: This is what we look like in the US.

00:11:01.158 --> 00:11:02.438
Rita Reimers: Are you a business advisor?

00:11:02.438 --> 00:11:03.338
Rita Reimers: We could use you.

00:11:03.978 --> 00:11:05.598
Linda Hall: yes, no kidding.

00:11:05.598 --> 00:11:09.658
Basel Nassar: I like to show the visual because all you hear me do is talk about meals and treats.

00:11:09.658 --> 00:11:14.498
Basel Nassar: And so once you see it, you kind of get a sense of the scope of what we're trying to do here.

00:11:14.498 --> 00:11:22.298
Rita Reimers: 2020 was a blessing in disguise for us too, because that's when we took our shift from pet sitting to the behavior side of things.

00:11:22.298 --> 00:11:32.998
Rita Reimers: But being able to sit back and really think about what you're doing and develop it, instead of being in a hurry to bring it to market, that really did afford you the luxury of creating this awesome brand.

00:11:34.958 --> 00:11:37.038
Basel Nassar: And I surrounded myself with some great people.

00:11:37.038 --> 00:11:47.958
Basel Nassar: I didn't bring two pet pros out of retirement to help me spearhead what is one of the most, what's the right word?

00:11:47.958 --> 00:11:51.778
Basel Nassar: Fickle might be slightly hypersensitive.

00:11:51.938 --> 00:12:02.838
Basel Nassar: And I understand why, because every pet store owner I've met has a different opinion on raw feeding and how to go about it.

00:12:04.118 --> 00:12:17.558
Basel Nassar: They're all in the same boat, but there's, and so for me, I feel like every sales call is unique, where coming from consumer products, there was just more bandwidth amongst the grocers.

00:12:17.558 --> 00:12:20.218
Basel Nassar: So you didn't have as much one store, two store.

00:12:20.218 --> 00:12:27.478
Basel Nassar: So I think that's been our biggest challenge, but we've got some incredible new offerings coming out for Super Zoo this year.

00:12:27.478 --> 00:12:34.918
Basel Nassar: You're gonna see our new goat milk little blend, which is a goat milk powder with 100 million probiotics per scoop.

00:12:34.918 --> 00:12:38.558
Basel Nassar: You can also rehydrate it for if you need goat milk on the go.

00:12:38.558 --> 00:12:40.518
Basel Nassar: That's good for dogs and cats.

00:12:40.518 --> 00:12:45.598
Basel Nassar: And also for Super Zoo, this is something that's really relevant to what we're talking about.

00:12:45.598 --> 00:12:54.238
Basel Nassar: All of our treats, the tripe treats, the meatball treats have now been formulated as a dog and cat treat.

00:12:54.238 --> 00:12:55.858
Rita Reimers: So it's multi-species.

00:12:55.858 --> 00:12:56.558
Rita Reimers: I love that.

00:12:56.658 --> 00:12:57.738
Linda Hall: That's helpful.

00:12:57.738 --> 00:12:58.678
Basel Nassar: And why do we do it?

00:12:58.718 --> 00:13:00.878
Basel Nassar: One, it's very crowded.

00:13:00.878 --> 00:13:03.298
Basel Nassar: Two, not a lot of space, okay?

00:13:03.298 --> 00:13:06.118
Basel Nassar: So brand crowded and then real estate crowded.

00:13:06.118 --> 00:13:10.918
Basel Nassar: So we felt in order to really get in, we'd want to create utility for the retailer.

00:13:10.918 --> 00:13:11.478
Linda Hall: That works for both.

00:13:11.478 --> 00:13:12.718
Basel Nassar: What we've done.

00:13:12.718 --> 00:13:18.118
Basel Nassar: And then we've got some very cool new meal systems coming for Super Zoo this year.

00:13:18.118 --> 00:13:18.798
Basel Nassar: So we're amazing.

00:13:18.798 --> 00:13:19.798
Rita Reimers: I hope we make it this year.

00:13:19.798 --> 00:13:20.998
Rita Reimers: I'm not sure if we're gonna make it this year.

00:13:20.998 --> 00:13:21.398
Linda Hall: So I know.

00:13:21.398 --> 00:13:24.058
Linda Hall: So I'm gonna lay something out before we take a break.

00:13:24.538 --> 00:13:30.258
Linda Hall: I'm sure being a Super Zoo person who's been there, you know, the two crazy cat ladies, Jay and Adrienne.

00:13:30.258 --> 00:13:30.898
Linda Hall: yes.

00:13:30.898 --> 00:13:35.178
Linda Hall: They just did some sensitivity testing on their cats.

00:13:35.178 --> 00:13:49.278
Linda Hall: And their problem cat, who they found stray, had every sensitivity in the world, where their cat that they tested that has been eating raw since they could eat raw, so they could eat food, had very little.

00:13:49.438 --> 00:13:50.858
Linda Hall: So it was one stevia.

00:13:50.858 --> 00:13:52.358
Linda Hall: The cat is allergic to stevia.

00:13:52.398 --> 00:13:54.078
Linda Hall: We don't give stevia.

00:13:54.078 --> 00:13:58.698
Linda Hall: So and they really credited it largely to the fact of feeding a raw diet.

00:13:58.698 --> 00:14:06.598
Linda Hall: So I know we've got to take a break, but I want to find out why raw under those, because that really got me when they told me that.

00:14:06.598 --> 00:14:08.698
Linda Hall: So right after this break.

00:14:11.378 --> 00:14:15.598
Announcer: Pet Greens is proud to support 19 Cats and Counting on Pet Life Radio.

00:14:16.278 --> 00:14:25.498
Announcer: Our small family farm produces live organic cat grass, catnip and soft chew treats packed with green nutrition to help your pets truly thrive inside.

00:14:25.498 --> 00:14:37.118
Announcer: We're partnering with pioneer cat behavior expert and bestselling author, Pam Johnson-Bennett, to help indoor cats live their best lives with indoor enrichment tips for their parents.

00:14:37.118 --> 00:14:51.538
Pam Johnson-Bennett: Anyone who knows me knows I am a very strong proponent for cats being indoors, but when we bring cats indoors, where I feel it's safest, we have an obligation to make sure they have a fulfilling life, that they get enrichment.

00:14:51.538 --> 00:14:55.118
Pam Johnson-Bennett: And part of that enrichment is encouraging health.

00:14:55.118 --> 00:14:57.818
Pam Johnson-Bennett: And a big part of that health is cat grass.

00:14:57.818 --> 00:15:00.838
Pam Johnson-Bennett: Cat grass helps with the prevention of hair balls.

00:15:00.838 --> 00:15:03.838
Pam Johnson-Bennett: It can help keep your cat away from house plants.

00:15:03.838 --> 00:15:06.098
Pam Johnson-Bennett: It's also fun for your cat.

00:15:06.098 --> 00:15:11.858
Pam Johnson-Bennett: It's a natural behavior that your cat wants to chew, and you know that you're providing it in a safe way.

00:15:12.478 --> 00:15:18.618

00:15:28.268 --> 00:15:48.068
Rita Reimers: PetLifeRadio.com And we're back with 19 Cats and Counting, my BFF Linda Hall, and Vasily Nazar with Boss Nation.

00:15:48.152 --> 00:15:51.292
Rita Reimers: Is it just Boss Pet Brands, Boss Nation?

00:15:51.292 --> 00:15:52.752
Basel Nassar: I'll tell you how we refer to it.

00:15:52.752 --> 00:15:55.192
Basel Nassar: We refer to it as Boss Dog and Boss Cat.

00:15:55.192 --> 00:15:55.672
Rita Reimers: Love it.

00:15:56.212 --> 00:15:58.752
Basel Nassar: And internally, we're Boss Nation.

00:15:58.752 --> 00:15:59.592
Basel Nassar: You know what I mean?

00:15:59.592 --> 00:16:03.172
Rita Reimers: Yeah, you have boss everything, Boss Bird, Boss turtles.

00:16:03.172 --> 00:16:04.392
Linda Hall: yes, that's right.

00:16:04.392 --> 00:16:05.352
Linda Hall: Boss Ranch.

00:16:05.352 --> 00:16:11.672
Rita Reimers: Taking up on Linda's question too, the part two to that would be, we tried to do our own raw diet.

00:16:11.672 --> 00:16:13.032
Rita Reimers: That didn't work very well.

00:16:13.032 --> 00:16:17.172
Basel Nassar: The cat formula took us the longest to replicate.

00:16:17.172 --> 00:16:18.592
Basel Nassar: And I'll tell you why.

00:16:18.592 --> 00:16:19.772
Basel Nassar: For a few reasons.

00:16:19.792 --> 00:16:23.172
Basel Nassar: One, it costs money to innovate and launch things.

00:16:23.172 --> 00:16:24.932
Basel Nassar: So you don't want to be wrong.

00:16:25.332 --> 00:16:25.892
Basel Nassar: Okay.

00:16:25.892 --> 00:16:45.332
Basel Nassar: The other piece of Intel or knowledge that was delivered to me was, there really hasn't been a successful raw cat meal that replaced a brand that was very prevalent several years ago, which I won't call out, that had some challenges.

00:16:45.672 --> 00:16:48.152
Basel Nassar: And we don't believe anybody's filled that space.

00:16:48.152 --> 00:16:55.472
Basel Nassar: So I said, how many people have gone and really looked at why consumers were gravitating towards that particular form of this?

00:16:55.472 --> 00:16:56.872
Basel Nassar: So we looked at it.

00:16:56.872 --> 00:16:59.532
Basel Nassar: We looked at what we're doing on the dog side.

00:16:59.532 --> 00:17:11.352
Basel Nassar: We looked at what the needs were for cats for, and ultimately what we ended up coming out with is a limiting ingredient, raw solution for cats in both frozen and freeze-dried flammat.

00:17:11.352 --> 00:17:15.432
Basel Nassar: Well, the key factors were single protein.

00:17:15.432 --> 00:17:17.252
Basel Nassar: So if we say chicken, it's only chicken.

00:17:17.252 --> 00:17:18.592
Basel Nassar: If it's pork, it's only pork.

00:17:18.592 --> 00:17:19.832
Basel Nassar: If it's turkey, it's only turkey.

00:17:19.832 --> 00:17:20.992
Rita Reimers: Oh, that is so important.

00:17:21.032 --> 00:17:25.492
Rita Reimers: And we just talked to somebody the other day who was looking for, what was she looking for?

00:17:25.492 --> 00:17:27.172
Linda Hall: I don't remember, but yeah, something.

00:17:27.292 --> 00:17:29.332
Rita Reimers: Or venison that didn't have anything else in it.

00:17:29.472 --> 00:17:32.612
Rita Reimers: Their cat's allergic and their venison has chicken in it.

00:17:32.612 --> 00:17:34.072
Rita Reimers: Well, that doesn't help her.

00:17:34.072 --> 00:17:39.532
Basel Nassar: Care went into the notion that we wanted to add DHA and salmon oil.

00:17:39.532 --> 00:17:48.652
Basel Nassar: The other piece is we didn't want to just use a prebiotic like inulin, which we use for our dog meals because we wanted to address furballing.

00:17:49.332 --> 00:17:56.752
Basel Nassar: Instead, we replaced our fiber with psyllium husk, and it helps prevent furballing and or assist the release.

00:17:56.752 --> 00:18:02.152
Basel Nassar: We hear that from customers all the time, testimonials, and we attribute that to the psyllium husk.

00:18:02.152 --> 00:18:08.112
Basel Nassar: Then, struvite is pretty common amongst male adult cats, urinary crystallization.

00:18:08.112 --> 00:18:10.452
Basel Nassar: That typically comes from calcium buildup.

00:18:10.572 --> 00:18:15.612
Basel Nassar: What we did is we use calcium from eggshell and we powderize it.

00:18:15.972 --> 00:18:21.712
Basel Nassar: And by doing that, we eliminate any of the accumulation that typically comes from calcium supplement.

00:18:21.712 --> 00:18:28.372
Basel Nassar: And all of those things went into formulating both entree for frozen meals and the freeze-dried.

00:18:28.372 --> 00:18:30.572
Basel Nassar: The question was, you know, why raw?

00:18:30.572 --> 00:18:43.852
Basel Nassar: Well, I can tell you in two or three simple terms, the entire pet family here at Boss, except for Maxie, and she will be eating like raw, freeze-dried at some point, veggies and fruits, eats raw.

00:18:43.852 --> 00:18:53.072
Basel Nassar: And since we've converted all of the animals within the last six years, I can tell you moisture retention, traumatic difference.

00:18:53.072 --> 00:18:56.332
Basel Nassar: We just see they don't go to the bathroom as much.

00:18:56.332 --> 00:19:05.812
Basel Nassar: The output in the yard, which is typically a result of product just flowing through and not being absorbed, I'd say down 50 percent since we moved to raw.

00:19:06.232 --> 00:19:06.912
Basel Nassar: Okay?

00:19:06.912 --> 00:19:14.152
Basel Nassar: The breath, dramatic, and I attribute a lot of that to the probiotic component that goes into it, because we're not talking low doses.

00:19:14.152 --> 00:19:16.072
Basel Nassar: these are very high doses.

00:19:16.072 --> 00:19:36.412
Basel Nassar: It's going to be the only pet brand company, we believe, by the end of this year, that's going to be able to not only say helps boost immunity, which we've just been authorized to do so through published scientific records, to be able to disclose how many probiotics your pet needs based on size or breed.

00:19:36.412 --> 00:19:37.932
Basel Nassar: And that's never been done before.

00:19:37.932 --> 00:19:46.372
Basel Nassar: And so, in essence, that was all of the motivation behind formulating the cat formulas, the treats, so on and so forth.

00:19:46.372 --> 00:19:48.012
Linda Hall: That's amazing.

00:19:48.012 --> 00:19:49.712
Linda Hall: And better health means longer life.

00:19:49.712 --> 00:19:53.432
Linda Hall: And it's now we're all looking for because their lives are way too short.

00:19:53.472 --> 00:20:04.972
Rita Reimers: You know, early on when they were talking about doing raw foods, you know, and I still lived in Los angeles, I had a client that had this raw just looked like ground beef raw with all these additives.

00:20:04.972 --> 00:20:08.592
Rita Reimers: I had to add to it and mix it up as that always scared me.

00:20:08.592 --> 00:20:15.152
Rita Reimers: And then I had a client here in Charlotte that she just had raw chicken breasts, just raw chicken breasts.

00:20:15.152 --> 00:20:19.012
Rita Reimers: And I had to put all these things with it to do the right nutrients.

00:20:19.012 --> 00:20:24.772
Rita Reimers: But I always worried that raw in that way was really not the best idea.

00:20:24.772 --> 00:20:26.792
Basel Nassar: Animals akin to the wild ain't raw.

00:20:27.392 --> 00:20:34.792
Basel Nassar: And when you look back at just historic, there's that, then there's the result that you see in the impact of your animal.

00:20:34.792 --> 00:20:41.012
Basel Nassar: I can't think of the last time we bought, other than just general checkup to our dogs, to the vets.

00:20:41.012 --> 00:20:43.472
Basel Nassar: My wife and I live a very healthy lifestyle as well.

00:20:43.472 --> 00:20:48.592
Basel Nassar: We don't eat, well, we eat sashimi, but we eat healthy.

00:20:48.692 --> 00:20:50.372
Basel Nassar: We rarely...

00:20:50.372 --> 00:20:52.252
Rita Reimers: I can tell looking at you, you're very buff.

00:20:52.252 --> 00:20:54.652
Rita Reimers: Those of you listening, you'll see when you see the video.

00:20:55.052 --> 00:20:56.412
Basel Nassar: It's what you put in your body.

00:20:56.412 --> 00:21:00.732
Basel Nassar: I think that dictates the way that you feel and overall immunity.

00:21:00.732 --> 00:21:01.532
Rita Reimers: Definitely.

00:21:01.532 --> 00:21:02.892
Basel Nassar: Can I show you one other picture?

00:21:02.892 --> 00:21:04.872
Rita Reimers: You can show us as much as you like.

00:21:04.952 --> 00:21:05.512
Rita Reimers: yes.

00:21:05.512 --> 00:21:08.852
Basel Nassar: This is the actual cat side of the website.

00:21:08.852 --> 00:21:15.372
Basel Nassar: So when customers come, they can either the pillars and just click on, and you go right into meals.

00:21:15.372 --> 00:21:18.392
Basel Nassar: Here's the freeze dried meals and the frozen entrees.

00:21:18.932 --> 00:21:19.632
Rita Reimers: awesome.

00:21:19.632 --> 00:21:27.332
Basel Nassar: Just within here, they get a real close up on the why, a full nutritional overview, an ingredient summary.

00:21:27.332 --> 00:21:28.472
Basel Nassar: Amazing.

00:21:28.472 --> 00:21:31.812
Basel Nassar: And we have just a lot of lifestyle things that support us.

00:21:31.812 --> 00:21:33.752
Basel Nassar: So there are just a lot of things that we're doing.

00:21:33.752 --> 00:21:35.352
Basel Nassar: Have you guys seen our treat trays?

00:21:35.352 --> 00:21:36.412
Basel Nassar: We did these for cats.

00:21:36.412 --> 00:21:38.252
Rita Reimers: yes, I looked at those.

00:21:38.252 --> 00:21:47.692
Linda Hall: yes, we were talking about those because we promote using lick mats and treat balls and things that make your cat hunt for their food.

00:21:47.692 --> 00:21:52.372
Linda Hall: And you've kind of did this with treats in the thing that they have to work at and get.

00:21:52.612 --> 00:21:56.112
Basel Nassar: yes, and we have tons of recipes as well.

00:21:56.112 --> 00:22:03.832
Basel Nassar: So, you know, cat-friendly recipes, gluten-free recipes, all sorts of different things using a freeze-dried meal.

00:22:03.832 --> 00:22:05.532
Basel Nassar: But I just wanted you to see that.

00:22:05.532 --> 00:22:08.552
Basel Nassar: We're very proud of the look and feel of the brand.

00:22:08.552 --> 00:22:11.832
Basel Nassar: I wanted it to be very wholesome and communicate health.

00:22:11.832 --> 00:22:12.952
Linda Hall: yes, 100%.

00:22:13.412 --> 00:22:20.372
Linda Hall: I tried another brand, Frozen Raw, and I liked it, but so many times.

00:22:20.772 --> 00:22:24.112
Linda Hall: I know, you got to play with them so many times.

00:22:24.112 --> 00:22:32.212
Linda Hall: We're like, oh, crud, I didn't get any out of the freezer, so I kind of like the Jim, the freeze-dried ones, for when I forget to pull something out of the freezer for the cats.

00:22:32.212 --> 00:22:32.652
Basel Nassar: Yeah.

00:22:32.652 --> 00:22:34.772
Linda Hall: How do you reconstitute those?

00:22:34.792 --> 00:22:36.992
Basel Nassar: Arc freeze-dried will serve it two different ways.

00:22:36.992 --> 00:22:40.952
Basel Nassar: I'll either just crumble and I'll break it up a little bit to help assist the cat.

00:22:40.952 --> 00:22:45.252
Basel Nassar: Arc, the morsel size or our nugs are small enough they can eat it whole.

00:22:45.252 --> 00:22:59.672
Basel Nassar: I'll use it as a topper if I want, alternate the protein or I'll just simply put it in a bowl, put about one to two ounces of raw goat milk, which we have a full of goat milk and it'll hydrate and soften within just a few seconds.

00:22:59.712 --> 00:23:00.792
Linda Hall: That's amazing.

00:23:00.792 --> 00:23:02.232
Linda Hall: That way they're still getting the moisture.

00:23:02.232 --> 00:23:05.872
Rita Reimers: I have 19 cats, so for me, cost is a factor.

00:23:05.872 --> 00:23:10.972
Rita Reimers: So I don't know if I could get it and I also have some cats that will not eat wet food.

00:23:10.972 --> 00:23:11.292
Basel Nassar: Okay.

00:23:11.292 --> 00:23:13.612
Basel Nassar: So there's always that anomaly.

00:23:13.612 --> 00:23:15.392
Basel Nassar: You're an anomaly, I'm an anomaly.

00:23:15.392 --> 00:23:15.892
Basel Nassar: Here's one.

00:23:15.992 --> 00:23:20.692
Rita Reimers: This cat here, she will not eat anything wet, which is nothing from my plate.

00:23:20.692 --> 00:23:21.352
Rita Reimers: I don't get it.

00:23:21.352 --> 00:23:22.572
Rita Reimers: She only wants kibble.

00:23:22.572 --> 00:23:27.212
Basel Nassar: It's like people say to me, do you feed your 160 pound Ridgeback straight freeze-dried?

00:23:27.212 --> 00:23:28.872
Basel Nassar: I go broke.

00:23:29.812 --> 00:23:31.392
Basel Nassar: I got to mix it up a little bit.

00:23:31.392 --> 00:23:34.032
Basel Nassar: I mean, there's nine or 10 cups.

00:23:34.032 --> 00:23:37.472
Basel Nassar: And so some of it's topper, some of it's stimulation.

00:23:37.872 --> 00:23:41.612
Basel Nassar: For the cats, we've got it down to premium meal systems.

00:23:41.612 --> 00:23:44.912
Basel Nassar: It costs you about $2.40 a day to feed your cat.

00:23:44.912 --> 00:23:46.012
Rita Reimers: No, that's not much.

00:23:46.012 --> 00:23:47.812
Basel Nassar: That's what you're looking about.

00:23:47.812 --> 00:23:49.652
Rita Reimers: That's probably what I spend now.

00:23:49.652 --> 00:23:50.132
Basel Nassar: Yeah.

00:23:50.132 --> 00:23:52.632
Basel Nassar: And that would be for your average size cat.

00:23:52.632 --> 00:23:57.092
Basel Nassar: So obviously depending on the range, but not more than $3 a day.

00:23:57.092 --> 00:24:01.792
Basel Nassar: So it's like less than a latte to give your cat a meal.

00:24:01.792 --> 00:24:04.312
Basel Nassar: And so for us, we think it's a no-brainer.

00:24:04.312 --> 00:24:12.172
Basel Nassar: And the new generation of pet owners is really looking at, in a lot of ways, parallels between human consumption and pet.

00:24:12.232 --> 00:24:12.992
Basel Nassar: You're right.

00:24:12.992 --> 00:24:17.732
Basel Nassar: I think there's pros and cons to any of that, because you're talking about two different species.

00:24:17.732 --> 00:24:19.392
Basel Nassar: Yeah.

00:24:19.392 --> 00:24:30.032
Basel Nassar: There are parallels that I think we've neglected in pet that have been beneficial to both human and animals just because it's been such an archaic system for the last 50 years.

00:24:30.032 --> 00:24:31.512
Rita Reimers: That's so true.

00:24:31.512 --> 00:24:35.552
Rita Reimers: Cats are so finicky and half the time my cats won't eat what I offer them.

00:24:35.872 --> 00:24:43.112
Rita Reimers: I'd like to be able to offer them something I know they'll enjoy because a dog will eventually eat when he's hungry enough.

00:24:43.112 --> 00:24:44.212
Rita Reimers: Cats, no.

00:24:44.212 --> 00:24:44.972
Rita Reimers: They'll starve themselves.

00:24:45.492 --> 00:24:47.072
Rita Reimers: They'll probably eat something they don't like.

00:24:47.072 --> 00:24:49.892
Linda Hall: Well, and I'd like to hit on what you said about expense.

00:24:49.892 --> 00:24:57.392
Linda Hall: We have found that feeding a more expensive, higher quality, more protein food, they eat less.

00:24:58.472 --> 00:25:11.972
Linda Hall: They poop less, which those of us with cats, we're talking, so I wonder, I mean, I haven't really weighed it out, but I'm really wondering how much more it is to the long run if you're paying more, if they're eating less and you're using less litter.

00:25:11.972 --> 00:25:13.792
Rita Reimers: It's less stink too.

00:25:13.952 --> 00:25:17.792
Basel Nassar: We should do, that's a good, that's a good challenge for my team to do.

00:25:17.792 --> 00:25:18.872
Basel Nassar: Convex.

00:25:18.872 --> 00:25:20.192
Linda Hall: I would love to see that.

00:25:20.192 --> 00:25:22.192
Basel Nassar: We'll do that for you and I'll come back to that.

00:25:22.572 --> 00:25:22.952
Basel Nassar: yes.

00:25:22.952 --> 00:25:24.072
Linda Hall: Please, thank you.

00:25:24.072 --> 00:25:25.432
Linda Hall: I really appreciate that.

00:25:26.392 --> 00:25:27.952
Linda Hall: I wonder that for some time.

00:25:27.952 --> 00:25:32.532
Rita Reimers: I spend about half as much on litter as I do on food for my guys.

00:25:32.532 --> 00:25:33.832
Pam Johnson-Bennett: It's crazy.

00:25:33.832 --> 00:25:36.392
Basel Nassar: Do you truly have 19 cats?

00:25:36.392 --> 00:25:38.272
Rita Reimers: We have 30 total in our sanctuary.

00:25:38.272 --> 00:25:40.552
Rita Reimers: I have 19 of them, Linda has 11.

00:25:40.552 --> 00:25:46.212
Rita Reimers: We're looking to build a facility here in the Charlotte area, in Lancaster, South Carolina.

00:25:46.212 --> 00:25:51.772
Rita Reimers: The Carolina Cat Sanctuary for Senior and Special Needs Cats that usually don't make it out of the shelters.

00:25:53.072 --> 00:25:55.892
Rita Reimers: We're always looking for donations, sponsors.

00:25:56.012 --> 00:25:57.472
Linda Hall: yes, anybody listening?

00:25:57.472 --> 00:25:58.912
Linda Hall: yes, exactly.

00:25:58.912 --> 00:26:00.412
Basel Nassar: That's absolute.

00:26:00.412 --> 00:26:04.552
Basel Nassar: At the end of this, I'll introduce you to Shay, and she runs Boss Nation cares.

00:26:04.552 --> 00:26:06.232
Basel Nassar: It's our charity platform.

00:26:06.492 --> 00:26:07.132
Basel Nassar: Let me show you.

00:26:07.772 --> 00:26:09.212
Linda Hall: I saw that.

00:26:09.212 --> 00:26:21.972
Linda Hall: I actually wrote down local charities, Pets for Vet, Folds of Honor, Korean Canine rescue, Pet Plus Natural, Wounded Warriors, Friends of Pack, I mean, you're really giving back.

00:26:21.972 --> 00:26:23.652
Linda Hall: We love you.

00:26:23.652 --> 00:26:30.512
Basel Nassar: Listen, this is me, and I was going to ask you, either Linda or Rita, have either of you been to the Lanai Cat Conservatory?

00:26:30.512 --> 00:26:30.912
Rita Reimers: No.

00:26:30.912 --> 00:26:31.592
Linda Hall: I want to go so bad.

00:26:31.592 --> 00:26:33.972
Rita Reimers: We know about it and I want to go.

00:26:34.012 --> 00:26:35.272
Basel Nassar: Incredible.

00:26:36.052 --> 00:26:42.892
Basel Nassar: This is me at Bluebell Foundation for Senior Cats, whose owners have passed.

00:26:43.292 --> 00:26:46.672
Basel Nassar: This is the most pristine foundation I've ever seen.

00:26:46.672 --> 00:26:50.432
Basel Nassar: It's in Laguna Beach Canyon, two miles from the beach.

00:26:50.432 --> 00:26:53.152
Basel Nassar: I mean, these cats are living in just gorgeous surroundings.

00:26:53.152 --> 00:26:55.952
Rita Reimers: We haven't got half a month, so.

00:26:55.952 --> 00:27:03.292
Basel Nassar: This is the stuff that we do, and I challenge the team to go out every month and support a local, regional, and national campaign.

00:27:03.292 --> 00:27:04.032
Rita Reimers: Evercat.

00:27:04.032 --> 00:27:05.512
Rita Reimers: We love the Evercat Foundation.

00:27:05.672 --> 00:27:06.992
Linda Hall: yes, ASPCA.

00:27:06.992 --> 00:27:08.172
Linda Hall: I mean, there's a lot of them in here.

00:27:08.172 --> 00:27:09.332
Linda Hall: Oh, pets in the classroom.

00:27:09.332 --> 00:27:10.432
Linda Hall: I can say Evercat.

00:27:10.432 --> 00:27:10.932
Linda Hall: Yep.

00:27:10.932 --> 00:27:11.512
Linda Hall: Yep.

00:27:11.512 --> 00:27:11.852
Linda Hall: Love them.

00:27:11.852 --> 00:27:13.172
Rita Reimers: You guys are awesome.

00:27:13.172 --> 00:27:14.132
Linda Hall: Barks of love.

00:27:14.132 --> 00:27:14.812
Linda Hall: Yep.

00:27:14.812 --> 00:27:15.672
Linda Hall: I love it.

00:27:15.672 --> 00:27:16.512
Linda Hall: I love it.

00:27:16.512 --> 00:27:18.432
Basel Nassar: This is us in the community.

00:27:18.512 --> 00:27:19.772
Linda Hall: That's amazing.

00:27:19.772 --> 00:27:20.832
Basel Nassar: Some pop-ups.

00:27:20.832 --> 00:27:31.532
Linda Hall: I think it's obvious that you're out to improve our animals' lives, but you are caring about animals as a whole and not just, I'm surveying and who's paying.

00:27:32.372 --> 00:27:40.392
Rita Reimers: I would love to try to try to just be over at least some of my cat's food to a healthier option.

00:27:40.392 --> 00:27:41.852
Rita Reimers: They eat a healthy dry food.

00:27:41.852 --> 00:27:46.012
Rita Reimers: I use a holistic dry food, but the wet food, they're all hooked on a national brand.

00:27:46.012 --> 00:27:47.092
Rita Reimers: I won't mention.

00:27:47.092 --> 00:27:47.632
Rita Reimers: Yeah.

00:27:47.632 --> 00:27:53.612
Basel Nassar: What I like to do at the end of these is have the team send you a kit just as a follow-up and they'll send you some cat food.

00:27:53.612 --> 00:27:54.972
Rita Reimers: Thank you.

00:27:55.292 --> 00:27:57.452
Basel Nassar: I love everyone's opinion.

00:27:57.452 --> 00:27:59.812
Linda Hall: Well, honey, we've got 30 cats between us.

00:27:59.852 --> 00:28:00.392
Linda Hall: I'll send you.

00:28:00.392 --> 00:28:01.312
Basel Nassar: I got plenty of pride.

00:28:02.612 --> 00:28:04.332
Rita Reimers: Linda's about to adopt a dog.

00:28:04.332 --> 00:28:07.852
Rita Reimers: They had a dog that passed away and they're about to add another dog to live in cats.

00:28:07.852 --> 00:28:09.672
Rita Reimers: So that was fun.

00:28:09.672 --> 00:28:13.532
Rita Reimers: If you know anybody who needs help integrating cats, yeah, for sure.

00:28:13.532 --> 00:28:20.352
Linda Hall: So do you have any tips, Lethely, on switching to a raw diet for cats like Rita's that are saying, meh?

00:28:20.352 --> 00:28:20.652
Rita Reimers: Slow.

00:28:21.492 --> 00:28:31.632
Basel Nassar: Just like with anything, Henry is our VP of sales and he's got a great story line where he talks about 10%, 20, 50, 75.

00:28:31.632 --> 00:28:35.832
Basel Nassar: By day six and seven, you should be at full conversion.

00:28:36.192 --> 00:28:37.192
Basel Nassar: That's awesome.

00:28:37.192 --> 00:28:40.292
Basel Nassar: You do want to mix in some of their previous foods as they move.

00:28:40.292 --> 00:28:48.112
Basel Nassar: It's the same way that I respond to eating too much tomato sauce and garlic after eating rice and chicken for two weeks.

00:28:48.112 --> 00:28:48.992
Linda Hall: Yeah, exactly.

00:28:49.212 --> 00:28:50.172
Rita Reimers: I understand that.

00:28:50.172 --> 00:28:53.312
Rita Reimers: We're also very, we're nutrition conscious too.

00:28:53.312 --> 00:28:57.072
Rita Reimers: We used to work for Richard Simmons, who you might be too young to know who he is.

00:28:57.072 --> 00:28:58.592
Basel Nassar: Well, I know Richard, curly hair.

00:28:58.592 --> 00:28:58.912
Rita Reimers: Yeah.

00:28:58.912 --> 00:28:59.552
Linda Hall: You gotcha.

00:28:59.552 --> 00:29:00.232
Linda Hall: Yeah.

00:29:00.232 --> 00:29:01.352
Basel Nassar: yes.

00:29:01.352 --> 00:29:03.172
Basel Nassar: Don't let this baby face full yellow.

00:29:06.092 --> 00:29:06.792
Linda Hall: Yeah.

00:29:06.792 --> 00:29:07.252
Linda Hall: Yeah.

00:29:08.432 --> 00:29:09.492
Linda Hall: We got our start that way.

00:29:09.492 --> 00:29:10.292
Linda Hall: That's how we met.

00:29:10.292 --> 00:29:12.352
Linda Hall: I worked with him for 17 and a half years.

00:29:12.352 --> 00:29:16.352
Linda Hall: So nutrition is always at the forefront of our thought process.

00:29:16.352 --> 00:29:21.392
Linda Hall: I'll tell you, Rita, I like this because cats like Lulu that won't eat wet.

00:29:21.392 --> 00:29:22.652
Rita Reimers: That's what I'm thinking of.

00:29:23.192 --> 00:29:30.032
Linda Hall: If you try the freeze dried, maybe that is a step in between kibble and wet food, right?

00:29:30.032 --> 00:29:32.512
Linda Hall: Maybe that will appeal to her more.

00:29:32.512 --> 00:29:39.592
Rita Reimers: I was thinking about her and then I have a few of my senior cats that are starting to, they're hungry, but they don't want to eat.

00:29:39.592 --> 00:29:44.792
Rita Reimers: So I don't know why, but I'd like to offer them something like this to see if that works.

00:29:45.552 --> 00:29:54.712
Basel Nassar: I'll tell you what we didn't bring, our senior cats and our finicky ones, the raw goat milk pumpkin as a stimulant.

00:29:54.712 --> 00:29:58.052
Basel Nassar: No matter what we put there, they will eat it.

00:29:58.052 --> 00:30:00.712
Basel Nassar: And the same for the dogs as well.

00:30:00.712 --> 00:30:02.532
Rita Reimers: Well, that will be on my next order.

00:30:02.532 --> 00:30:04.412
Rita Reimers: I'm going to be ordering some of this.

00:30:04.412 --> 00:30:07.912
Basel Nassar: You have to get creative to keep the pets eating normally.

00:30:07.912 --> 00:30:11.452
Basel Nassar: And so we rotate our protein probably every two weeks.

00:30:11.452 --> 00:30:11.632
Basel Nassar: Yeah.

00:30:12.532 --> 00:30:16.532
Basel Nassar: Chicken, turkey, pork, and then we'll rotate lamb, beef, chicken, fish.

00:30:16.532 --> 00:30:18.292
Rita Reimers: Yeah, they get bored just like we do.

00:30:18.292 --> 00:30:25.072
Rita Reimers: Because I know sometimes my cats will not eat something they loved, and then I won't give it to them for a few weeks, and I put it back in, they'll eat it.

00:30:25.072 --> 00:30:27.432
Rita Reimers: So unfortunately, we have to start wrapping up.

00:30:27.432 --> 00:30:29.672
Rita Reimers: We could just keep talking to you on and on and on.

00:30:29.672 --> 00:30:31.012
Rita Reimers: We hope you'll come back.

00:30:31.012 --> 00:30:32.032
Basel Nassar: Absolutely.

00:30:32.032 --> 00:30:32.812
Rita Reimers: I can't help it.

00:30:32.812 --> 00:30:34.672
Rita Reimers: Look at that beautiful bird.

00:30:34.672 --> 00:30:35.672
Rita Reimers: I know.

00:30:35.672 --> 00:30:36.652
Rita Reimers: loves you so much.

00:30:36.772 --> 00:30:37.272
Rita Reimers: It's obvious.

00:30:37.272 --> 00:30:38.072
Linda Hall: She's so pretty.

00:30:38.072 --> 00:30:38.372
Rita Reimers: I miss her.

00:30:38.372 --> 00:30:39.752
Basel Nassar: She's not camera shy.

00:30:39.752 --> 00:30:40.932
Linda Hall: No, she's not.

00:30:40.932 --> 00:30:43.532
Linda Hall: She wants to be a spokesbird for your next line.

00:30:43.532 --> 00:30:43.932
Rita Reimers: The spokesbird.

00:30:43.932 --> 00:30:47.432
Rita Reimers: Speaking of which, do you have some surprise to tell us?

00:30:47.432 --> 00:30:48.612
Linda Hall: We're at Cats and Dogs.

00:30:48.612 --> 00:30:49.252
Basel Nassar: We are.

00:30:49.252 --> 00:30:57.392
Basel Nassar: I'm not sure if it's going to be for Superzoom this year, but we're looking very closely at a new boss bird offering.

00:30:57.392 --> 00:30:58.032
Basel Nassar: Yay.

00:30:58.892 --> 00:30:59.892
Basel Nassar: Why do it correctly?

00:30:59.892 --> 00:31:03.572
Basel Nassar: We want to offer the same value that we do to the dog and the cat.

00:31:03.572 --> 00:31:08.212
Basel Nassar: And so that's the reason why it hasn't happened, but it's hot here off the press.

00:31:08.212 --> 00:31:09.172
Basel Nassar: You guys got the.

00:31:09.172 --> 00:31:11.392
Rita Reimers: Woo, we got the skills.

00:31:11.392 --> 00:31:12.112
Rita Reimers: Woohoo.

00:31:12.112 --> 00:31:17.192
Rita Reimers: Yeah, those of you who've never had a bird, I've had birds, they eat way more than just seeds.

00:31:17.192 --> 00:31:17.652
Rita Reimers: Okay.

00:31:17.652 --> 00:31:18.612
Rita Reimers: yes.

00:31:19.212 --> 00:31:20.512
Basel Nassar: We do.

00:31:20.512 --> 00:31:21.992
Basel Nassar: She has her seed bowl.

00:31:21.992 --> 00:31:26.712
Basel Nassar: We have a fresh veggie and fruit bowl for potatoes.

00:31:26.712 --> 00:31:30.212
Basel Nassar: So yeah, they're, you know, it's just, it's like, take care of your animals.

00:31:30.212 --> 00:31:31.432
Basel Nassar: They take care of you.

00:31:31.432 --> 00:31:32.112
Linda Hall: I love that.

00:31:32.112 --> 00:31:37.632
Linda Hall: And I could say, I mean, it is so obvious that again, you're not just trying to sell something and make a bike.

00:31:37.632 --> 00:31:38.432
Linda Hall: You're taking your time.

00:31:38.432 --> 00:31:41.312
Linda Hall: You couldn't have just put the bird thing out and gone, here we go.

00:31:41.312 --> 00:31:43.872
Linda Hall: But you're taking the care to make sure that this is right.

00:31:43.872 --> 00:31:45.172
Linda Hall: You're giving back to charities.

00:31:45.172 --> 00:31:46.552
Linda Hall: I mean, yeah.

00:31:46.552 --> 00:31:46.932
Rita Reimers: We love you.

00:31:46.932 --> 00:31:49.032
Linda Hall: You're pretty high on my, yes, we do.

00:31:49.032 --> 00:31:52.452
Linda Hall: You're pretty high on my list of heroes right now.

00:31:52.452 --> 00:31:54.532
Linda Hall: Exactly, exactly.

00:31:54.532 --> 00:31:58.532
Basel Nassar: We try to live behind treating your pet like a boss.

00:31:58.992 --> 00:32:00.112
Rita Reimers: Your pet like a boss.

00:32:00.112 --> 00:32:03.572
Rita Reimers: And that's the perfect place to end our podcast.

00:32:03.572 --> 00:32:04.872
Rita Reimers: We hope you'll come back again.

00:32:05.152 --> 00:32:09.452
Rita Reimers: When you do introduce a new line or any reason at all, we'd love to have you back.

00:32:09.452 --> 00:32:10.372
Linda Hall: And that survey.

00:32:10.372 --> 00:32:11.432
Linda Hall: I want to see this.

00:32:11.432 --> 00:32:12.692
Rita Reimers: yes, definitely.

00:32:12.692 --> 00:32:15.312
Rita Reimers: We definitely want to know the answer to Linda's question.

00:32:15.312 --> 00:32:18.852
Rita Reimers: And Linda, thank you so much for being here to pose these questions.

00:32:23.172 --> 00:32:25.032
Rita Reimers: Thank you for being on our show.

00:32:25.032 --> 00:32:25.952
Rita Reimers: Thank you for listening.

00:32:25.952 --> 00:32:29.732
Rita Reimers: And thank you, Mark Winter, for giving us this spot on Pet Life Radio.

00:32:29.732 --> 00:32:31.332
Rita Reimers: We are forever grateful.
