Sudipta Barhan-Quallen
Every book is an autobiography. If you want to know about my life, all you have to do is read my books. Kids always react to that revelation by wondering if that makes me a vampire pig (à la Hampire!) or a chicken in pajamas (à la Chicks Run Wild) – and, of course, it doesn’t. But there is a piece of me in each of my books.
It is not possible for a writer to write anything authentic that she does not know intimately. Therefore, as authors, what we write inevitably reflects what we have lived. My books are about flawed characters, families who drive each other crazy, plans that don't always work out, and the adjustments we all make while we go through life. That's because I'm a flawed person who loves a lot of flawed people who often drive me crazy. My plans rarely work out the way they are supposed to and I've learned that making changes on the fly is one of life's greatest pleasures. I create characters based on people I know, and when I write stories for those characters, I get to give them the endings that they deserve.
Leeza Hernandez
Leeza Hernandez has acquired a diverse wealth of experience—from newspaper and magazine design to book design, corporate, print-production, art direction and illustration across multiple markets from print to social media. Working professionally and enthusiastically, she strives to deliver dynamic visuals and has the ability to work to tight deadlines under high levels of pressure. With a passion for design, solution-finding, brainstorming, and creative teamwork, Leeza enjoys the challenge of seeing a project through from concept to completion. As a secondary endeavor, Leeza illustrates books for young readers specializing in picture books, chapter books, and baby board books. She also works in art licensing ranging from fabric & textiles to tabletop, wall and home decor, children's books, stationery, greeting cards, and paper goods. Specialties: Whimsical, funny, off beat, and quirky illustration projects always light Leeza's creative fire!
