Getting Started with Homemade Dog Food

Genie Joseph on Pet Life Radio

There are so many dogs whose lives have turned around for the better when their person began making homemade dog food. Certified Pet Food Nutritionist and Registered Dietitian Dani Dominguez has been seen on Oprah Daily, Martha Stewart, and other national media. She talks about how she turned her dog's life around for the better, simply by making simple homemade meals. Like everyone else, she began with commercial kibble but soon saw that her dog was not thriving. She learned evidence-based nutrition principles and began the journey to homemade cooking, and she never looked back. Her dog's digestion, elimination, and skin coat immediately began to improve. And Dani realized she could help others experience wellness through nutritious homemade meals. You can start simply, start small, start slowly. Just begin… you'll be glad you switched to homemade.

BIO:

Hello, I’m Dani Dominguez!

I am a Registered Dietitian Nutritionist, certified pet nutritionist, and the founder of SunBright Wellness.

For most of my career, I worked in human nutrition helping people navigate digestive issues, metabolic concerns, and the everyday overwhelm of trying to “eat healthy” in a world full of food and diet noise.

Then Foxy came into my life.

Foxy was a rescue who had undergone six rounds of chemotherapy (for a non-cancerous issue) in a shelter.

When we brought her home and started on a journey to help her recover, I began looking at her food the same way I look at my clients’ food.

And I realized something uncomfortable: I had never questioned what we were feeding our pets.

That curiosity turned into deeper study. Deeper study turned into certification. And eventually, SunBright Wellness was born.

What I discovered is this: we often take better care of our pets than we do ourselves...but we are rarely taught to look at health as something shared.

Our pets’ digestion, energy, skin, weight, and behavior are often reflections of the same foundational principles that affect our own health: nutrition quality, gut function, movement, stress, sleep, and environment.

Today, I work with both humans and their pets using a whole-body, holistic approach rooted in science. I do not believe in fear-based feeding. I believe in thoughtful assessments, sustainable habits, and small intentional shifts that support long-term health - for you and the animal who walks beside you.

SunBright Wellness exists because Foxy changed the way I see healing. And now, I help families build healthier lives...together.
