Inside the Hamptons Wildlife Rescue: Saving Owls & Other Wild Animals
Jill Rappaport takes Rappaport to the Rescue on location in Bridgehampton, New York, for the 26th anniversary celebration benefiting the Evelyn Alexander Wildlife Rescue Center, the only wildlife hospital serving the East End of Long Island.
Jill meets Leona, a beautiful long-eared owl who lost a wing after being hit by a car and now serves as an ambassador helping educate the public about the wild animals living all around us. Wildlife advocate Jane Gill explains how the organization teaches people to coexist safely with wildlife and why avoiding pesticides and rodenticides can make such an important difference.
Jill also catches up with honoree Charlie Marder at Marders in Bridgehampton and talks with Wildlife Rescue Center president Missy Hargraves, who shares what it takes to rescue, rehabilitate and release injured wildlife throughout the Hamptons. With hundreds of calls coming in and more than 130 different species helped during the year, the organization and its East Hampton triage center provide a vital lifeline for injured and orphaned wild animals.
