Creating a Coalition of Cat Trappers in Arizona, USA
This week, we speak with Angeline Fahey from the Humane Society of Southern Arizona. Angeline pioneered their first Community Cat Program, bringing trained and specialized cat trappers into the field to provide TNR services to the community. She shares with us both the challenges and opportunities of having TNR staff working in the field. Together we explore strategies, such as Cat Trapping Thursdays, and TNR bingo, for engaging new volunteers and keeping caregivers as part of the solution for a sustainable TNR project that sterilizes more than 3,000 community cats each year!

BIO:
Angéline Fahey is the Lifesaving Outcomes Manager at the Humane Society of Southern Arizona, where she leads transformative programs that improve shelter outcomes and support pet retention in the community. She pioneered HSSA’s first Community Cat Program, which offers free volunteer trapping assistance and judgment-free trap-neuter-return services to over 3,200 community cats annually in Tucson, prisons, and rural communities across Southern Arizona. While you can still find her in the field trapping and rescuing cats, Angéline’s primary focus now incorporates streamlining shelter operations to help animals find placement more efficiently by reducing barriers and implementing inclusive approaches that bridge the gap between human and animal welfare—and keep animals in their communities with the people who love them.
