Surveying, Spaying, and Neutering in Mumbai, India
This week, we spoke with Pallavi Kamath from the Feline Foundation, operating a large-scale spay/neuter program for community cats in Mumbai, India. To date, they've sterilized over 14,000 cats and treated over 45,000 cats and dogs, where they’ve achieved up to 80% sterilization in some of the areas they work in. They’ve achieved this by using strategic approaches to their TNVR work, including surveying areas, mapping colonies, counting cats, and engaging the community. BIO:
Pallavi Kamath is the Executive Director of The Feline Foundation, in Mumbai, India. She joined the cat rescue world when she was in school and started rescuing kittens off the streets and getting them adopted. When she went to college in the US, she started volunteering at her local shelter and rescue where she met her now kitty, Sam. After completing her BSc. in Animal Science and MSc. in Animal Public Policy in the US, she returned to Mumbai where she joined The Feline Foundation. The organization works to help community cats in the city through population management, healthcare initiatives and community involvement.
