Karen McCumsey is a Chicago native who moved to rural Streator, Illinois with her children. She now lives in the country with her 5 dogs, 4 cats and children. She discovered the drawback to living in the country is that in a year’s time it was not unusual to find several dogs and dozens of cats/kitten abandoned near her home. She has spent years trying to understand why people do this. Many of the abandoned pets were sick and needed medical care. Others had behavioral problems that needed corrections. Her conclusion is the causes abandoning pets are poverty and lack of training of the animals.
In 2009 Karen founded For the Love of Pets as a 501©(3) Charity/Rescue. Since then she has been working hard to help to make a difference for the pets in LaSalle county IL.
